Plugins

Through out these pages we will go over the techniques needed to installing each plugin. If there is a trick to getting the plugin to show or work in psp it will be listed. Our goal here is to give you any added information that will ease your time in group and enhance your lessons. The actual plugin zips can be requested from your Moderator. They were given a list of locations during the training to become a Mod for Winni's Psp Lessons.

Effects & Plugin filter has always worked but isn't working now! Why??

  1. A lot of effects will not work on a layer named Background Layer. Layers/Promote Background
  2. The color in your image may not be the required 24 bit. Image/Increase Color Depth/16 Million Colors. This usually occurs when you are using a layer that was saved as a .gif. Again Layer/Promoto Background Layer would work prior to copy and pasting as a new layer.

General Reasons Plugins don't work

  1. The plugin is not in 8bf format. Look in the folder that you have downloaded the plugin via the c/programs/Jasc/psp?/plugins folder or where ever you are keeping them and open that folder that has the plugin that you are having trouble with...click in the View/Details or list and look for 8bf extensions on the end. If you don't see them then you may have a plugin that is not PSP compatible.. Check the site that you downloaded it from and it should tell you...usually when it says it is Photoshop compatible you can use it in PSP.
Fix would be import through Filters Unlimited 2 or use Plugin Commander, or seek out a copy that has been converted
  2. Sometimes you have to have a selected area rather than the whole graphic! Selection tool...magic wand an area and try your plugin again. Or Select All/Float Select All/Defloat to get the entire area selected.
  3. Sometimes you will see the material or color pallet go to a funny color scheme with multiple shades of the same colors showing. In your Effects a lot of effects will not be available..the selections in there are mostly all dead! This is telling you that you have to increase the amount of colors possible in your graphic. Image/Increase Color Depth = 16 million colors! (hint hint it was saved as a gif prior)
  4. Some Effects of a plugin are visible and working BUT the one I want isn't showing.
Fix would be to go where you have the plugin stored and find the desired effect's file, then rename it adding a number to the beginning. Even when the effects have different names such as PoolShadow for Greg's Factory Output II; but the actual coding is simular to another Plugin's effect Psp reads it as the same, renaming it somehow alerts Psp it is not the same effect in two plugins. I say somehow because had this been the case only with effects having the same file name it would be a simple reasoning as to why renaming works, but its not just same name effects its same coding effects as well.
